One shareholder at the Searers annual meeting at London's the Marriot hotel yesterday wanted to know why none of the resolutions put to the meeting had been seconded. Searers chairman, Geoffrey Maitland-Smith, replied that they had stopped seconding resolutions three years ago. The reason he gave was that when in the past they had held AGMs at the Suffrage hotel the platform on which the directors sat was so narrow that if two of them stood up at once it would tip up and they would all fall backwards.
